SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT

Social Responsibility

Princess Hussa worked as an independent advisor to the governmental Human Rights Commission in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 2008 to 2011.  She helped launch national campaigns against domestic violence with the Al-Nahda philanthropic society, in Riyadh, in 2008, liaising with Asharq Al Awsat and other reputable publications.  She published an article highlighting the need for a minimum age for marriage, in Al-Majalla, in 2010.

Princess Hussa participated in the Saudi Red Crescent Human Rights Conference, in Riyadh, in 2003, where she presented a paper on Saudi Arabia and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  She later promoted and furthered a national campaign, entitled Ijra'i (my procedure), aimed at assisting illiterate women in knowing and understanding their rights, and enabling their access to their rights.

Supporting Women's Development

Princess Hussa has inaugurated women’s universities in Riyadh and been the inspirational keynote speaker at women’s university graduation ceremonies in Riyadh and Jeddah.  As a keen believer that women’s participation is key to the success of the Kingdom, Princess Hussa chaired meetings of businesswomen, in Riyadh, to support and facilitate their successful quest for a women’s section in the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in 2004.

As a fifteen-year-old pupil, Princess Hussa was the first editor-in-chief of Al-Riyadh School magazine for girls, which was founded with the assistance of her late brother, HRH Prince Ahmed bin Salman, then Chairman of Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG).  Princess Hussa published interviews with her aunt, HRH Princess Al Banderi bint Abdulaziz Al Saud, about her extensive personal library, and with her cousin, HRH Princess Moodhy bint Khaled bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, about her philanthropic work at Al-Nahda.  Princess Hussa has worked with SRMG to support humanitarian and philanthropic initiatives, as well as to give voice to women’s opinions and writing, in the past.  Princess Hussa was Executive Head of the second forum for Saudi Women in Media, entitled “A Media Vision of Economic Prospects”, in 2007.
